It was the tweet heard around the world, and it quickly caused the cancellation of one of the most successful reboots ever!
Roseanne Barr's tweet not only offended many, it also caused ABC to cancel the successful reboot of her show.
Roseanne's ex husband Tom Arnold, has his own thoughts on what and why it happened, and says it could've been prevented.
“It had to happen,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Wednesday.
“And I am going to tell you the truth, she wanted it to happen, if you saw how her tweets escalated this weekend.”
“If it hadn’t happened yesterday, this season would have been so awful for everyone every day because she would have felt like she was [being] taken advantage [of], just like when I left the show,” Arnold said.
He also suggested taking away Barr’s phone might have prevented her Twitter attack on Valerie Jarrett on Monday, saying that hiring Roseanne again they knew her social media habits.
“ABC lost maybe $1 billion from this; this show was grinding out money hand over fist and they lost it all because somebody didn’t say, ‘Get that phone out of her hand,’” he told THR. “She’s not going to go on TV and say these things. But you put that phone in her hand and she is a loose cannon.”
He talked about it on CNN this week.
But what about the rest of the crew besides the actors who are now out of work?
It seems that all in, there are a total of about 300 jobs that will be lost when you factor in writers, producers, and everyone behind the scenes. With the show generating the massive ratings that it did most of the crew passed on other opportunities when they were told about the show's renewal, and now most shows in production are fully staffed.
No word on if ABC will choose to compensate them in any way.
