Last month, Gastonia resident Jimmy Shue went to Wendy's to grab some food. Shue noticed the name on his receipt said "Chubby" instead of his actual name. Shue's story went viral and because of the attention the receipt received, the Wendy's employee was terminated. The fast food chain never replied with an apology of any sort.
When the story first broke, Shue was seen in news stories wearing a Philadelphia Eagles hoodie, and is a die hard Eagles' fan. Thanks to the power of social media, the family of former Carolina Panther, Reggie White, heard of Shue's embarrassment, and because White also played for the Eagles, Reggie White's widow Sarah and son Jeremy made a special in-person visit to Shue's home hoping to spread good will.
White's son told Shue, “My father used to play for the Eagles and he’s Reggie White and we wanted to bring you a Jersey. If Wendy’s wasn’t going to apologize to you, you know...we got something."
What a beautiful, unexpected blessing. If you remember the kind of player and man Hall-of-Famer Reggie White was, both on and off the field, then you know he would be incredibly proud of his wife and son for going out of their way to make the world a better place.
