Women of Country Music Throwback Appreciation post

On this International Women's Day, I sat down to write a "Dolly Parton Appreciation Post." I've loved her since I was a kid. My aunt Tish loves to tell a story of when I was maybe three or four and I jumped out of the bushes at the family garage sale and started singing Dolly Parton songs to the shoppers. When I was about five or so, I went as her one year for Halloween. I had the extreme pleasure of meeting her several years back and upon telling her that I went as her for Halloween as a kid, she instantly joked "you mean you don't go as me every year?" followed by that quick Dolly Parton squeal-laugh that we all love so much! And then fresh off her tremendous job of hosting the ACMs last night, I thought I would write a post honoring her.

But then it occurred to me... I LOVE Dolly, but there are so many other women in Country Music that I equally love and this being International Women's Day, I should shout out ALL my throwback favorites! So, in no particular order, here are the women I adore and want to pay tribute to on this International Women's Day, throwbacks only!

Of course we'll start with Dolly. Unlike this incredible performance from 1974, this song never gets old...

Patsy Cline. Can I just say how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE the song "Walkin' After Midnite?!" And everything Patsy sang, for that matter?

Loretta Lynn. Fun fact, my dad's cousin is actress Beverly D'Angelo, who I'm sure you know as Ellen Griswold in the Vacation movies, but Beverly played Patsy Cline in the Loretta Lynn movie Coal Miner's Daughter! But let's watch actual Loretta!

Reba's "Fancy" NEVER gets old. EVER! I wonder where that one-room, run-down shack on the outskirts of New Orleans is...

Nobody can wail like Martina on the end of "A Broken Wing!"

You'd be hard-pressed to find a Trisha Yearwood song that I don't love, but I have seen her do Linda Ronstadt's "Blue Bayou" in concert on more than one occasion and it is always STUNNING!

"Strawberry Wine" may be one of my all-time favorite Country songs, but the album that it came from, Did I Shave My Legs For This... that entire album was fantastic! The title track and "We Danced Anyway" we so much fun!

"No One Needs To Know" was always my favorite Shania song!

And man do I love the (Dixie) Chicks! And it's SO HARD to name my favorite song by them!!! Is it "Goodbye Earl?" Is it "Sin Wagon?" Is it "There's Your Trouble?" Is it "Wide Open Spaces?" Is it "Ready To Run?" Is it (insert any song here)? Today I'll go with "Cowboy Take Me Away" but I'm sure my favorite will change tomorrow because I LOVE. THEM. ALL!

There are so so SO MANY MORE not mentioned here, but I gotta stop before I wind up down a never-ending rabbit hole!!

Thanks for throwing back with me and Happy International Women's Day!
