Unless you've been hiding under a great big rock, I'm sure you've heard the debate about whether or not Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" is Country. My take? Not Country. Just because a song mentions horses, doesn't mean it's "Country" haha! I hear it as an R&B song. Add in Billy Ray Cyrus, and I STILL hear it as an R&B song!!! That said, I have a co-worker who makes an incredibly strong case for it being straight up Country!! He hears it as nothing else, and I admit that it's hard to argue with his logic! But I still don't hear it as a Country song, though I respect why he does...
Either way, it's amazing to me how so many people have so many different take-aways from this song! But there is one thing that nobody can debate...when Keith Urban strips it down and sings it with nothing but a banjo, it's Country! :)
