J.D. Gibbs has passed away

This has been a sad weekend.  Saturday morning, the world woke up to the sad news that J.D. Gibbs had passed away Friday night.  J.D. was 49, and died from complications of a degenerative neurological disease.

J.D. was the son of Joe Gibbs, who has three Superbowl rings and four NASCAR Cup series Championships to his name.  J.D. was born in the Los Angeles area when his dad was an assistant coach at USC and moved several times before settling in the Washington D.C. area.  He attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, where he was a defensive back and quarterback on their football team.  After school, he became employed at Joe Gibbs Racing, which his father started in 1991.  He also raced in several NASCAR series races, including the Truck Series and Busch Series.

J.D. lived in Davidson, North Carolina, and was married to wife Melissa.  They have four sons; Joe Jackson, William Miller, Jason Dean II, and Zachary Taylor.  This is such a sad passing, and J.D. will certainly be missed.
