Two Dead, Multiple Injured in UNCC Shooting

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- Two people were killed and four have been injured in a shooting at UNCC Tuesday afternoon, MEDIC tweeted. The shooter, a 22-year-old male, is in custody and has been charged with two counts of murder and four counts of attempted murder.

Shots fired were reported at about 5:45 p.m. Tuesday. near Kennedy Hall at UNCC, officials said.

What we know:

  • Two people were killed and four others injured after a gunman opened fire in a classroom at UNCC Tuesday just after 5:30 p.m.
  • The shooter was taken into custody by officers who rushed to the classroom
  • Police arrested and charged 22-year-old Trystan Terrell with 2 counts of murder and 4 counts of attempted murder
  • Terrell was a UNCC student and will make his first court appearance on Thursday

UNCC said all final exams have been canceled through Sunday. Officials tweeted that the student union has been cleared and can serve as a meeting place for students and staff.

6:21 p.m.: A UNCC student told Channel 9 over the phone that he was heading to the Waka Flocka Flame concert at the Jerry Richardson Stadium on campus when he heard that there were reports of shots fired. He said everyone was running.

"It was terrifying -- did not expect it in the least," the student said.
