Multiple Injured in Gas Explosion in Downtown Durham

Authorities said one person is dead and 15 others were hurt after an explosion and fire in downtown Durham, North Carolina.

Authorities said a contractor for Dominion Energy hit a gas line, and the building was not evacuated before the explosion.  

The city of Durham tweeted Wednesday that people should avoid the area of Duke and Morgan streets. The city said police and fire officials as well as those from PSNC Energy are responding.

The explosion happened around 10:15 a.m. on North Duke Street near the Durham School of the Arts. No students were hurt.
