NC State Trooper Fatally Shot During Traffic Stop

A North Carolina state trooper was fatally shot this morning, Wednesday, October 17th in Columbus County. The trooper, identified as Kevin K. Conner, an 11-year veteran, pulled over a pickup truck for a speeding violation on US 701 near Sellers Town Road. The driver fired several shots as the state trooper approached the vehicle and then fled the scene. 

NC Highway Patrol tweeted Wednesday morning, "One of our @NCSHP troopers was fatally shot this morning while protecting and serving his community and state. The suspect is in custody.  The entire @NCPublicSafety family appreciates your thoughts, prayers and support."
