Mecklenburg County Announces Weekend Closings and Prep for Florence

Charlotte, NC– In preparation for Hurricane Florence, Mecklenburg County has announced several weekend closings and cancellations. Affected activities and facilities are listed below by department:

Community Support Services

Activities Canceled

Sept. 15: NOVA (New Options for Violent Actions)

Sept. 15: Homeless Resource Center meals

Sept. 15 and 16: Supervised visitation

Land Use and Environmental Services Agency (LUESA)

Facilities Closed

Sept. 15: All full service recycling centers, including Foxhole Landfill

Sept. 15: Compost Central at 140 Valleydale Road

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation

Facilities Closed

All athletic fields will be closed except Field 2 at the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex at Matthews

Activities canceled

All recreation center activities

All nature center activities

Sept. 14: Live on the Green at First Ward Park

Sept. 15: Volunteer project at Latta Plantation Nature Center and Preserve

Sept. 15: Volunteer project at Sugaw Creek Park

Sept. 15: IMPACT - Hit the Brixx at First Ward Park

Sept. 15: Pitchin for Wishes at Freedom Park

Mecklenburg County Public Health 

Activities canceled

The Big Shots Saturday event at the SE Public Health Department
