South Carolina Police Taking Heat Over Detaining 9 Year Old

South Carolina police officers handcuffed a nine-year-old boy for PLAYING close to his home!

Video shows an officer also cuffing his concerned mother who comes to see why her son is in the back of a police patrol car.

The footage shows him responding to a house were reportedly a call came in about a boy throwing rocks at a window.

The boy, who has a BB style toy gun, is seen standing in the street before the officer approaches him after getting out of his car.

The Officer says: “Drop it, it’s a BB gun.

“I am retaining you for your safety and my safety, ok?”

The boy is then cuffed and the officer asks him for his address before putting him in the back of the patrol car.

Within a few minutes his concerned mother approaches the car giving the boy’s name and taking his BB gun from the cop.

An argument then ensues between the officer and the woman before he cuffs her too as the boy’s father also approaches the police vehicle.

She can be heard saying: “He’s got my baby in the back of the car. He was not throwing rocks we have none in our yard.

“This is pissing me off my son’s back there, he is 9-years-old!”

The officer can then be heard calling for back up as a small crowd gathers around the patrol car.

Spartanburg Police Department said they released the entire recording from the officer’s body cam “in the interest of transparency” and to correct some of the misinformation that has been shared.

They also shared that their policies based on case law do not prohibit the handcuffing of juveniles or any individuals identified as suspects in the initial phases of a police investigation.
