Woman Hits Son For Not Giving Her Mother's Day Card

A Spartanburg woman was arrested after she got upset her son gave his grandmother a Mother's Day card and not her.

Police say they were called to the residence for a disturbance and when they arrived, the grandmother was standing with the two grandchildren. One of the children was crying.

The grandmothers told police that 30-year-old Shontrell Murphy slapped her son in the front, side and back of the head, then ripped up the card.

The boy's sister told cops that Murphy was upset the card he made was for his grandmother and when she found out, she ripped up the card and smacked him multiple times.

Murphy didn't believe she hit him in a "hard or violent manner." The boy's sister told police the mother hits them all the time.

She was charged with cruelty to children. She has since been released from the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
