Phat Burrito, a Southend staple across from the old Common Market, will close its doors on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Stephen Justice, who owns the restaurant on Camden Road, is closing its doors due to one common problem in the area: parking. "Once development started going in across the street, all my parking was gone," he told the Charlotte Observer. "I went from 300 (people) a day to 100."
The development he speaks of is an eight-story building on the site of the old Common Market and Food Truck Friday bought by Dimensional Fund Advisors who will put its headquarters there.
The restaurant will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., then the doors will close forever on Saturday.
The parking situation has also caused another Southend landmark to close its doors this year. Amos' Southend will host its final weekend March 3 and 4 and will shut down for good.
