Lainey Wilson Reflects On Writing 'Good Horses' At Miranda Lambert's Farm

Lainey Wilson officially unveiled the sole collaboration on her highly-anticipated album on Friday (August 2).

Wilson said the duet is “for the ones with a free spirit who love running wide open. It’s for the ones who wanna go places, meet people, discover new things about life and themselves. It’s for the ones who can’t help but roam but find themselves coming home to refill their cup so they can go do it again. They plant their feet for a minute to remember who they are and where they come from.”

“Good Horses” featuring Miranda Lambert is the latest song to arrive from Whirlwind, Wilson’s follow-up to her Grammy Award-winning record, Bell Bottom Country. Wilson penned the duet with Lambert and songwriter Luke Dick. The two award-winning artists previously teased the collaboration, including when they performed it for the first time during Wilson’s Wildflowers and Wild Horses shows in Las Vegas, Nevada. Lambert, whose new album titled Postcards from Texas will arrive in September, was in town performing her Vegas residency at that time. Wilson said in a Q&A recently shared by Glamour Magazine that she’d consider “Good Horses” to be “the theme song of my life right now… the hook is ‘good horses always come home.’ I’m a firm believer in that. No matter where this job takes me, I’ma always find my way back home.”

“I am so excited for everyone to finally be able to have their hands on this song. Writing with Miranda and Luke feels like home, and I will forever cherish the day we wrote this song,” said Wilson. “‘Good Horses’ is all about finding your way back home, no matter where you are.”

“‘Good Horses’ is about all the people that love the comfort of home, but also need to be free,” Lambert added in a statement of her own. “Lainey and I wrote this song at my farm with Luke Dick. Lainey is a genuine and authentic human. I love watching her dreams come true right in front of our eyes, and it’s so cool to be a little part of it.”

“I don’t need a map/ I don’t need a road / I don’t need a fence / I just need to roam / If you wanna love me / You don’t need a rope/ You just need to know/ Good horses come home”

“I am so excited to finally announce Whirlwind. This album has been a long time coming and I can’t wait for the world to have this body of work in their hands soon,” Wilson said in a statement when she announced the Jay Joyce-produced project and its release date. “This new chapter of music is the most cathartic and personal piece of art I’ve ever made. I hope this record brings some peace to your whirlwind and wraps its arms around you like it did for me.”
