Officer Michael Travis rushed into harm’s way when he arrived first at a shooting scene at Northlake Mall. Officer Travis ran in the direction of gunfire and confronted the shooter. He de-escalated the situation, getting the suspect to comply with his directions, and taking him into custody without incident. Officer Travis then re-entered the mall and continued to assist with managing a chaotic scene. His supervisors say Officer Travis conducted himself bravely, placing his own safety second to the needs of others, and that his heroic actions reflect what the profession of policing is truly about.
