Last night, Sony Pictures made a presentation at CinemaCon 2022 that included the announcement that a new Ghostbusters film is on the way!

Annnnd that's about all they had to say about that. Sony gave no indication as to who would star in it, if it's a stand alone film, if it's a continuation of Ghostbusters: Afterlife... basically they said nothing other than a quick mention in a sizzle reel that a new Ghostbusters is in the works. But let the excitement commence anyway!!!

The original film, a definite classic, was released in 1984 and starred Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, and Rick Moranis. Ghostbusters II came out five years later with the same core cast. The next Ghostbusters film came out about 27 years later and was a reboot on the original, but focused on four women played by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. This film was the least successful among the franchise. Last year came the highly successful Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which has grossed over $204 million worldwide with a budget of only $75 million.

Two new Ghostbusters video games are also in production, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed and Ghostbusters VR.
