#BettyWhiteChallenge: Angie's pick - SaveTheHorses.Org

You've probably seen #BettyWhiteChallenge all over your socials today. The fabulously funny endearing actress Betty White would have been 100 today. She was a huge advocate for animal rescues, so today people across the world are encouraging one another to donate $5 to shelters or rescues in her name.

My charity today is SAVE THE HORSES, a 501(c)(3) non profit with the mission to to rescue abused, abandoned, and neglected horses and other animals. The name may be Save the Horses, but they take in animals of all kinds Goats, Pigs, Duck, Donkeys, Chickens, Roosters, they even have a Peacock and Pea-hen and have rescued Buzzards!

In 1998, founder Cheryl Flanagan saw the need to address the urgent need for rescue services and equine public education. After rescuing her first horse and re-homing it she realized the good she could do for animals.

Save The Horses currently has over 100 horses housed at several locations and 30 other animals. It's basically a real life Dr. Dolittle farm, from Silver, the beautiful white horse with Cancer, to Humphrey the adorable Miniature horse with a form of scoliosis that has left him with a hump in his back. There's Black Bart the rooster and Billy The Goat! Dwarf Miniature Horses, Goats, Sheep, Ducks, Dogs, Cows and more!

The average horse costs $400 a month, just to cover the basics (outside of the cost of medical care.)  The average horse costs $400 a month, just to cover the basics (outside of the cost of medical care.)

Save The Horses does not receive any government funds. The feed and care of these animals is based solely on volunteers and donations. That's why it's so important for you to help today!  All donations are tax deductible..

Cheryl says, “It’s a horse rescue, but we’re also a people rescue… We see people change their lives after being here…There’s a reason they all come here to volunteer”

It so easy for you to become a volunteer. No experience necessary and all ages are welcome. In fact, Emery (6) and I volunteered just recently. It's a great way to get yourself and the kids outdoors and get hands on experience with amazing animals. New Volunteer Orientation is the 2nd Saturday of every month.

Party anyone? They offer Kid's birthday parties complete with ponies, horse painting, pony rides and meeting all animals in our petting zoo including sheep, goats, ducks, pigs, chickens, a turkey, donkeys and miniature horses.

If you con't have any free time, you can sponsor an animal.
