Teen Stabbed in Back While Jogging on Trail in Weddington Neighborhood

UNION COUNTY, N.C.- A 13-year-old boy was stabbed in the back while jogging on a trail in his family-friendly neighborhood Thursday night, according to the Union County Sheriff's Office.

The attack happened at about 7:15 p.m. on a walking trail in the Weddington Chase subdivision.

Officials said the boy runs on his school's cross-country team and decided to run later in the evening because of the hot temperatures.

He was on the trail when police said a man came up behind him and stabbed him in the upper back.

Police told Channel 9 the assailant was about 18 years old with curly blond hair and was wearing a white T-shirt, shorts, shoes and had no socks.

The attacker ran off, and the boy ran to a nearby house to get help. He was taken to Atrium Health in Charlotte and was in stable condition, officials said.

Channel 9 spoke with the woman at the home that the boy ran to. She said he knocked at another door first, but nobody answered. That's when he came to her house. She said he lifted his arm and she could see the blood.
