Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts Gave His Daughter Up For Adoption.

I love the transparency and vulnerability of Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts. I love his Faith in God and how he freely shares that faith and love to all who will listen. One story that DeMarcus shared in his memoir," Shotgun Angels: My Story of Broken Roads and Unshakeable Hope" shares a moment in his life where he faced an extremely difficult decision, a decision that would change his life dramatically depending on what direction he walked down.

When DeMarcus was in his early 20's he was in a Christian duo called East to West. He also had a girlfriend named Maggie who he had been seeing about a month when she got pregnant. The condom broke the first time they were intimate. This left the young couple with a very difficult decision to make. Get married and raise the baby together or put their daughter up for adoption.

The couple decided to make the difficult decision of putting their baby up for adoption. DeMarcus hoped to work things out where he could still be involved in the child's but his girlfriend chose to move forward with an outside adoption that didn't include him. Once the Christian music industry heard of the news he lost his job immediately. DeMarcus discusses that moment in his life saying, “I understand, I guess, but it does seem that many Christians all too often kill their wounded instead of taking time to be there to help pick someone up.”

The daughter that was put up for adoption is now in her 20's and there's not a moment when he doesn't think of her and wonder if she knows who he is. The adoptive family had a letter to give the girl once she turned 14-years-old, the letter explained what happened and how DeMarcus loved her and tried several way to make it possible to be in her life.

This was a dark moment in his life. DeMarcus later formed the group Rascal Flatts with his two roommates. He now has two children with his wife Allison Alderson. DeMarcus' hope is that his book will hopes his memoir will encourage people that no matter where they are in their lives, they can find hope, comfort and strength in their faith.

Jay DeMarcus' memoir, "Shotgun Angels: My Story of Broken Roads and Unshakeable Hope" is out now. Amazon has the Hardcover book listed for under $18.
