Two City Councilmen Help Save Sarah Lee's Day

Have you ever had one of those days where it seems like EVERYTHING is going wrong? That was my day Friday.

Coincidently, it was two City Councilmen, one from Gaston County and the other from Cleveland County, who came to my rescue. Friday afternoon I was shopping for my husband's Birthday gift when I came across this beautiful huge tool chest. My husband leaves his tools all around our house and he can never find them when he needs them, so I thought this would be a perfect gift! (for both of us)

I wasn't thinking about the size of the tool chest when I bought it, but I quickly learned that no matter how hard you try...34 inches of steel can not be smushed into a 31 inch space. So I did what every girl in despair does, I called my Dad for help!!! Unfortunately my Dad's old truck was being painted and unavailable. As I stood in the parking lot, sweating, feeling defeated... I started calling all my friends who owned a truck.

Not only did Gaston County Commissioner Chad Brown answer my call, he went out of his way to make his truck available. (HUGE THANK YOU) Thanks to Chad, I was able to get the tool chest loaded and to my home in Kings Mountain. That's when I ran into my second issue. How in the world am I going to get a 255lb tool chest out of the truck all by myself? I like to think I'm superwoman but this time, no matter how hard I tried, the box wouldn't budge. Back to the phone... I began reaching out to my neighbors to see if anyone could help! It was Kings Mountain City Councilman Jimmy West who answered the call!!! Within minutes, Jimmy walked over and unloaded the toolbox, basically by himself. (In the rain) (HUGE THANK YOU TO JIMMY)

While it's the role of a councilman to be available for matters in their community, this was not a community matter, this was a friend in need. These two men stopped what they were doing and took a moment from their day to help a friend. Their actions show another example of why they're such great community leaders. What are the odds.... that it was two councilmen who came to my rescue and saved the day?

I'm so thankful that God has blessed me with such a great tribe of friends. The kind of friend who will stop what's going on in their own world to join me in mine. What these two men did out of the goodness of their heart's, not only helped me physically but also taught me a great lesson. One small gesture from you can be a HUGE day maker for someone else. These two men have reminded my soul how important it is to be present. To show up. To always have a hand available to help.

Thank you for the life lesson and for helping a girl out! Ya'll are the best!
