Thompson Child & Family Focus is Here to Help Families Amid Coronavirus

Charlotte-Based Organization, Thompson Child & Family Focus, is Resolute in its Mission to Help Families Amid Coronavirus Pandemic

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – As the spread of COVID-19 continues to be a growing, nationwide concern, A Child’s Place at Thompson Child & Family Focus is taking extra precautions to not only protect their staff, but also the homeless children and families they serve. Through their social media channels, donor bases, and media partners, Thompson is extremely vocal in its call-to-action for the local community and beyond to help those with the most immediate needs. As food and housing top the list, other resources are critically needed. Thompson President/CEO, Will Jones, took to his Linkedin page to appeal to his network to join the mission of providing Chromebooks for 50 children at Thompson.

“This is an unprecedented time for all of us, and the impact is unknown,” said Will Jones, President/CEO, Thompson. “What we know right now is that these families need us more than ever, and we will continue to serve in ways our community has come to expect from A Child’s Place (ACP). We will go above and beyond to ensure the children and families severely impacted by these events will not feel forgotten. Our focus is always to support them during a crisis and empower them for life afterward.”

Thompson is a leading human services organization in North Carolina that continues to stand in the gap for those in need—specifically kids faced with mental health challenges and the 600+ children and families currently being served by ACP. And during this critical phase of the Coronavirus, the organization is appealing to the public to lean in and support kids and families in need. By providing resources that families need to support their journey to food and housing security, Thompson is supplying the building blocks in Charlotte that ultimately make for a healthier community.

“In order for kids and their families to feel some sense of normal, they HAVE to be connected to the most basic of resources. There is an immediate need for at least these things. What they need TODAY is food assistance and emergency housing assistance. This is the new reality and we’ve got to meet everyone where they are,” said Jones. “Many have stepped up when we asked for assistance and together, we have delivered. Now, more than ever, it’s time to do more for families who are in IMMEDIATE need. There are no options here, we MUST help wherever we are needed…no matter what!”

There is a lot of work to do in these next uncertain weeks and months ahead, so please visit Thompson’s websitetoday to make a donation of funds or tangible resources. About A Child’s Place

Since 1989, A Child’s Place (ACP) has been working to improve the lives of children and families experiencing homelessness in Charlotte. Beginning as a small group of committed volunteers and growing into a nonprofit serving over 2,000 children and their families from schools across Mecklenburg County, ACP has transformed into a leading organization and is the only nonprofit organization in Charlotte focused specifically on the success of children whose families are experiencing homelessness and generational poverty. On February, 17, 2020, ACP officially merged with Thompson to become another formidable program within the organization to address the needs of children and families in Charlotte.
