NASCAR Champ Bobby Labonte to race at Bowman Gray Stadium

Saturday is going to be a BIG night at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem! 2000 NASCAR Winston Cup Champion and Class of 2020 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Bobby Labonte will make his debut in the Modified series.

Bobby won 21 races driving for Joe Gibbs Racing during his Cup Series career including crown jewels like the Coke 600 at Charlotte, Southern 500 at Darlington, and the Brickyard 400 at Indy. He was also the 2001 IROC Series champion and the 1991 Busch Series champ. In 2017, Bobby became the first American to join the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series. In 2018, he raced that series full time, finishing 14th in points with one top 5 and four top 10 finishes.

With everything that Bobby has raced and accomplished, it's hard to believe that he has not raced in the Modifieds before now, but he hasn't! Tomorrow night will be his first time. Bobby has been to Bowman Gray several times this summer watching and testing and it is going to be a thrill to see him race tomorrow night in the Modified Twin Fifties as he finds out "why they call it the Madhouse!" Good luck, Bobby!

Here's a fun picture of Bobby and I from last December when he came by to help us raise money for St. Jude. On top of being a great racer, he is a REALLY nice guy!
