CHARLOTTE, N.C.- For the first time in franchise history, the Charlotte Checkers are champions of the American Hockey League.
The Checkers defeated the Chicago Wolves in Game 5 of the Calder Cup Finals in Chicago on Saturday to capture the first championship in the team’s nine-year history in the AHL.
Fans are invited to a public celebration at Bojangles’ Coliseum at 7 p.m. Monday.
Admission and parking are free for the event, which will feature a video presentation, remarks from team personnel, photo opportunities with the Calder Cup and an autograph session with Checkers players.
